The Winchester Cultural Council is holding a community meeting on the arts on Tuesday, May 20 at 7 pm at the Winchester Public Library, 80 Washington St. The focus will be using the World-Wide-Web to publicize and to find out about cultural activities in town. On Tuesday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m, the Winchester Seniors Association and Coucil on Aging will present this year’s Mary J. Brennan Memorial Lecture in the Pond Room of the Jenks Center. The speaker will be Alan Macdonald, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable. The topic of his speech is Business and Government: Special Interests or Common Interests?
Mr. Macdonald has had an extensive background in management, having served as the Manager of State Government Relations for the General Electric Company in Massachusetts and as Manager of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the Gulf Oil Corporation in New England, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. He was also Assistant Attorney General for Massachusetts, working primarily in the areas of environmental law and criminal law enforcement.
On the local level, he is a Trustee of the Winchester Savings Bank, a Director of the Massachusetts Business Development Corporation, and a Director of several non-profit organizations. In the past, he has served as Chairman of the Winchester Board of Selectmen, President of the Winchester Country Club and Chairman of the Hallmark Health Corporation. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School. He resides in Winchester with his wife, Jane.All are welcome!
The spring show for the Winchester Ballet Conservatory will be Sleeping Beauty, the classic ballet with music composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, on Saturday May 10 at 4 pm in the Winchester High School auditorium. Tickets are available at the door.

The Senior Honors Art Class of 2008 would like to invite you all to their final thesis show, “SHAdy Business.” This is for the final opportunity for the 20 SHA artists to show you as a group the results of their creative spirit and hard work.
The show will be up from Monday, May 12 until Friday, May 16. The show is located at the high school on the second floor in the staff lounge. The gallery is open during school hours the entire week.
The opening reception is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th from 6–8 pm. Refreshments will be served!
