Ceramics

Ratna Dalal

Professionally, I’m an architect, but spiritually I'm an artist. Working in the highly computerized world of making rectilinear drawings of buildings in black and white, created a hunger in me for curvilinear forms and color. To fulfill this hunger, and to unwind from this environment, I started cultivating a hobby of botanical painting in watercolors and acrylics. Using colors, water, and brushes with hands after working on a computer is like therapy for the mind, body and soul!

Artistic field description
Ceramics, Coiled Shinoglazed with Woodash

Ceramics has always played an important role in my life. As a middle schooler in the Netherlands, I was given the key to the art room to work independently and assist my teacher on special projects.
I later studied Economics at the Free University in Amsterdam and worked as a financial analyst. To find balance, I returned to ceramics, studying sculpture with Dutch artist Femke Kempkes, focusing on the human body.
